Have people who say "blood is thicker than water" experienced abusive, neglectful or distant families?

I find, especially here, that a lot of people feel that family members are "naturally" the ones you can trust the most, the ones who will always be "there" for you, people whom you can always stand by, whom you have to stay close to no matter what they have done... etc. In my family, I would never be able to take care of my mother if she got really sick because she closes everyone off and actually asks that people don't email her because it is too "hard" for her to "deal with". When my dad died, I could not get any extended family members to care about coming to the memorial service I organized. Friends have been much more "there" for me. This is not about my whining, but I wonder - can people who put family first fathom that not all families even WANT to be close?

Darn William B is a small engine tech today..He is usually a building maintence foreman..but I have seen him be alot of things depending on the question..when You broke the first valve and it was replaced, the valve seat itself was damaged from the first broken valve..simply inserting another valve will work for awhile, but now that the valve seat has been damaged..(which does not necessarily mean it will be visible to the eye) the new valves are going up and down and improperly seating...Most shops do not own valve seat grinders now days, and alot of them don't even do it..they simply tell you that you need a new mower..or throw a part in to make it temporarily work long enough to "get the money and run"..I am 54 and years ago I took a small engine repair course which we were taught to grind the valve seats when there was valve damage..they dont hardly do this now days..they make a tool for it that fits on a drill..all the way to high tech ones that have guages and meters and wont allow you to overgrind them..they need "miched" out..I am a 37 year experienced painter but I have done other things in my life..Small engines were a small part of them..

I'm trying to get the Earthquake TM in Wayward cave. I know exactly where it is, and how to get to it, but when I get to the last bike hurdle (the one right before all the stairs to get to Earthquake), my bike cannot make it over. If you go on low gear, you don't get inside the rock box, and if you go high gear, you don't have enough space to get going fast enough. Whenever I try, my bike just hits the hurdle and doesn't go over.

I was made an offer of emloyment (on the phone and in writing) that I accepted on August 13. This is for a position to start on Sept 8. The offer is contingent upon the company's extensive background and drug, criminal check. I received a call from the background company last Monday afternoon and resolved the issue with them and the employer on Tuesday. When accepting the offer, I asked how long it would take to know for sure if everything was clear. The HR rep said as long as I didn't hear from her, I was fine. She also said she would send an email with last minute reminders on where to park, which entrance to use, etc. I asked how long the background check would take and the HR rep said 1-2 weeks depending on the county. This Wednesday will be 2 weeks. I received a call for an interview at my 2nd choice and have the interview scheduled. I really want the job that I accepted the offer from and wondered how long I should wait before I check to see that all is well and I should head to work on 9/8. I guess in this case its no news is good news but it sure would be nice to know so I can cancel the interview with choice #2.

What kind of burn do I have?

I've been burned many times before (both by the sun, hot things and chemicals (when i thought i was a science major)) but yesterday I was baking and accidentially grabbed a hot pan with my thumb and pointer fingers. I put them under cold water and it hurt for a couple of hours yesterday, and i also put two blister band-aids on them to keep it clear of dirt and such. Last night i checked them and the skin where i burnt my fingers is indented on both, looks waxy, skin is dry, it's white and i don't have a lot of feeling (it actually doesn't hurt at all, which is why i'm concerned). They're not big burns at all and there isn't any blistering going on as far as i can tell... anythoughts are appreciated!

MARSOC even sometimes prefers someone from a MOS with less "infantry" based experience.. they see it as a clean slate.. depending on some of the recon marines I've trained with, MARSOC may not "select" them after A&S just due to their attitude of being better than others or believing they know better.. again, not recommending one or the other, just stating that it will come from your personality PERSONALLY based on what you learn before you leave to train.. although you're on a long road.. i'm sure you know it.

Overcoming dependancy on superficial comforts?

I am in a relationship with a wonderful, brilliant, gorgeous man. As this is the first serious relationship I've ever been in, it's also the first time I've realized how much I depend on superficial things for comfort. Most recently he took me out for my Birthday, we had a great meal it was a pretty romantic night and we finished it up with a bottle of wine and a movie..when the movie was over and the wine had stopped flowing we were cuddling in bed when he said to me, "I know you want a boyfriend out of me, but I'm a fickle one, so your gonna be my cuddle buddy - got it!" and then he playfully slapped me on the *** while I laid there pretty much feeling like had twisted a knife in my heart. I didn't know how to take this, after thinking things were getting hot and heavy I reasoned it was all in my head and perhaps they were fizzling out. I completely backed off, my Birthday was on a Friday and we had plans to hang out all weekend but I decided on a whim that Sat. afternoon I was going to head back to my hometown and be with family and friends. Within hours of me being gone he began texting me "Hey, I hope you have a really great time with your family, miss you honey." This sort of annoyed me as I felt he was sending me mixed messages. I didn't even respond, which then prompted him to send me like 5 texts when I was on my way back home on Sunday..needy sort of "talk to me" type texts. We had some back and forth banter..again with me being friendly but frosty due to what I perceived as a clear indication on his part that he wanted space. So the following week he was due to go to a friends wedding out of town and he called me about two nights before he left and asked if I'd come stay at his place, I lied and said I was busy and asked if we could just play it by ear to which he asked if I'd come spend the following night. I did. When I got to his place he proceeded to give me an "extra" key to his apartment and told me I should feel free to stay there the whole week seeing how its closer to my job and would be a lot more convenient for me..so he pretty much just gave me his place, no strings attached just so I could hang out and avoid a considerably longer commute. I have to say I am sooooo freaking confused, I'm not sure if this guy is into me or not..and here's the thing in all the time we've been dating, we've still never been intimate. That's not my doing either because honestly about a month in I was inquiring as to when there was gonna be some hanky panky to which he informed me he just hasn't been horny for awhile and hasn't felt any desire for , however I've seen him on several so called "dating" websites though out the course of our courtship and I figure there must be some kind of drive there..so I wonder how true the whole I'm not horny thing really is. The one time we did come close to was on a drunken night home from the club one evening, where the mood was kinda shot when he in a "drunken stupor" pissed himself in the car..it kinda killed the mood to say the least. You can do a block check to see if your head gaskets are damaged but it requires a block tester. You can get these at most auto parts stores for about 40 bucks. I have seen the fan clutches on the water pumps go bad in BMWs and explode the fan which damages the radiator and or coolant hoses. Also if there is an engine oil cooler in the radiator that was damaged it could cause oil to be sprayed all over the motor. If you can do a compression test do it, that will also tell you if the motor is damaged internally Good luck

How to use a multimeter to find positive or negative?

I'm not completely electrically illiterate but I have never gotten the hang of using a multimeter. Last year a halloween prop was broken. The head (which contains two dc servos; one for the eyes and one for the mouth) became disconnected from the body. The problem is that the wires disconnected from their weak point which is where they had been joined to the wires in the body which are color coded differently (this is a purchased prop, not one I made, and getting info from the manufacturer has been next to useless). The two pair of wires in the head are obvious (two complete sets each containing a black lead) but where they connect its just four random seperate colors: purple, red, green and white. I imagine there is some way for me to figure out with a multimeter which of the two leads are positive and which are negative, as well as which positive goes to which negative. Any help would be apreciated.

This mean guy who lives next to me in the apartment complex recently got a beautiful female labrador pup. Anyway this guy is lazy, his apartment is filthy, Dog poo everywhere. Now before you judge let me say that the reason I know this is because he always asks my husband to come over and work on his computer. My husband came back and was very emotional saying that the labrador was still in her cage crying so loud he could barely concentrate on what he was doing. It made my husband so upset he came home and hugged our lab as if he had never seen him before :(. This guy works very very long hours and asks me when I get off if I could let her out. My teeth were severely (horizontally...the worst scenario) impacted...my Doc suggested I stay awake so I could brace myself when he had to exert extreme pressure to pull them out...it's a good thing I did cause he almost had to put his foot on my chest he was pulling so hard...no way he could have done that had i been out and limp as a noodle....all I can say is don't do what I did after the operation (I said screw the pain pill prescription...I was just out of the Marines and felt I was immune to pain...lol, and just went home and went to sleep, well when i woke up after the Novocaine had worn off I was in so much pain in brought tears to my eyes)...get the prescription filled...bottom line, I never want to be put under unless it is absolutely necessary.

I just got a new job waitressing, but it's not going so well?

i just got a job as a waitress in a sports pub. i went through a grueling training session for a week long and i also had to take multiple drink, menu and alcohol sales tests just to be prepared for the restaurant's opening. last night was my first real night on the job. i worked for 10 freaking hours and only made $40 in tips by the time checked out. we were super busy and i ran my tail off, but half of my tables were just dudes who ordered a beer and left. not that i mind working hard, but i have friends who are waitresses and they make a heck of a lot more. also this was the restaurant's second night open to the public so there were still some gliches that we need to work out. for example, no one told me when the grill shut down last night so i put in food orders after the kitchen had closed. hello, i think it's kind of important that you tell me when the kitchen closes. i got in troube with the manager because one person told me it stayed open until 2 am. i feel like i'm going to be fired anyway. not to mention, i put that i could only work 20 hours a week and they scheduled me for 6 days this week (at least 6 hour shifts). i go to school full time and i cannot fail out because of some job. i know jobs are hard to come by but i know i can find another job with time. also, i'm living with my parents and while i want to move out, if i don't have a job for a few months, it won't make me homeless or hungry. i feel like this job is not going to work out. what do you think? no one is communicating well and i'm getting frustrated.

Temple Tenderness and Pain After a Hard Laugh?

This is going to sound weird and I'm not sure I can explain it very well. I laughed out loud pretty hard and when I did that I felt a pull or a pinch at my left temple. Since then, I've had tenderness about the size of time at my temple anytime I would gently touch or push around in that area. It's not a sharp pain but at random times it will thump/pinch/pull like a headache and then go away. Come back for a pull/pinch again and then go away. It would also do that off and on when I would chew food. The best I can explain the pain is maybe a pulled muscle or maybe a pinched nerve since it's very random, but very bothersome and worrisome. I know there's an artery there and things like blood clots and aneurysms scare the crap out of me. I don't like to google symptoms as it's always gotten me so worked up and worried that I send myself into a panic attack. Can you pinch a nerve way up there just by laughing hard? or pull a muscle just laughing? Has this ever happened to anyone else? What was it? Will it go away? Is it treatable? Serious? Why do parents name their children unpronounceable names?

I'm not saying that some names are "weird" or "not traditional," I'm just asking why you want your child to constantly be having to clarify the spelling of his/her name! I myself have female cousins with the names of Mason and Lola, and while I personally wouldn't name my children those names, they will have no technical problems with their names as they grow up. For example, just looking at some of the names parent's have posted for review, I have seen Iberer, Beauick, Declan, Teague, Blaise, Keir, Shasta, Kieran, Shai, Delayne...the list is endless. I know you feel that you want the spelling of the name to be original, but do you really want to burden your children with these names that, if you need to show the pronounciation on when you post them, other people will have trouble without it?

Weird signs, need reurance. am I pregnant?

I asked this question earlier but I need reurance. First off, January 16th I got a period like the usual, but this period was weird. It wasn't as heavy as it usually was, it was medium in fact. And on top of that, it only lasted about 2 days, when my normal periods last 4-5 days. Lately I've very, very mood, I have mood swings like no other. I feel extremely tired, I'll sleep for 7 hours and then get tired again in about another 7 hours, I've been getting random headaches on and off, and sometimes random chest discomfort and back/shoulder pain. My calves are also very sore, my feel a little bit tender, not badly though. I feel really foggy and spacey, and sometimes really shaky. My period was due on the 15-16th of February, it's been regular like that for as long as I can remember. I read somewhere that implantation bleeding can be mistake for a period. Also, the last time I had , was December 24th - January 1st. When I went up to see my fianc�e. I'm 17, about 105 pounds, and about 5'2", I've also been very, very stressed lately with family, school and relationships. I've also been randomly nauseated a few times, and had some slight insomnia, worse than usual. All I really want to do is sit around, sleep, and eat, but I only want to eat certain foods that I'm craving. Anything else I just won't eat it. Am I pregnant? Should I get a test now? Or wait?
