What to do with the I 864?

Ok I am living in Honduras with my wife(the petitioner), we are in the process of getting her K 3 visa, we are stuck on the I 864. I have lived here for the past 3 years and have not worked in the states or filed for taxes. My dad is going to sponsor my wife but I don�t know if it is required that i live in the states and work. Any help is appreciated thank you!!!!
