I'm moving from a crappy apartment and want to get rid of roaches fast!!?

My husband and I finally found a great apartment in a awesome neighborhood and its roach free! I lived in this roach crap hole for 4 years and in the process my daughter developed asthma and my son respiratory infections. We had the owners fumigate several times during the four years and they minimized and even disappeared for almost a year but came back this summer stronger than ever. I don't understand how they just showed one day and multiplied that fast. Anyways I'm moving with only my 2 new leather sofas, elliptical, kids beds,some clothes, our 42" flat screen and like 5 dvd/cd players and recorders, plus small stuff like my laptop cable modems. Luckily, we don't have to bring the stove and fridge! I literally had to throw away everything so we can start over so I am pretty much moving in to an apartment with just the stuff I mentioned and its a big apartment. My apartment is not severely infested, but if something does not get done soon, it will be a clic infestation issue to where the city inspector will need to step in. I haven't packed yet because I am afraid that something will crawl in. So how do I make sure I don't bring anything within in a two week time frame of our moving day? What should I do along with extermination? What do I buy? Serious answers only from experienced individuals please!
